Twisted French Twist

EXPERT TIP

Get this playful twist on the classic French 'do by leaving long hair out at the bottom of the twist.

HOW TO ACHIEVE THE LOOK

STEP 1

Wash and condition hair.

STEP 2

Towel-dry hair until damp and scrunch with a towel to help prevent damage and split ends.

STEP 3

Cover a wide-tooth comb with mousse and work it through your hair from root to tip. Repeat, to ensure enough mousse is evenly distributed throughout your hair. Blow-dry hair completely, using a round brush underneath your hair and the blow-dryer on top to straighten the hair from root to tip. If you have bangs, place the brush under your bangs, curling them, and place the blow-dryer on top, holding it there for 20 seconds.

STEP 4

With your hands, gather all hair into a ponytail slightly below the crown of your head, although not as low as the back of your head. Smooth the front of the ponytail with a flat brush, first brushing the middle section of your hair and then the sides. Secure the ponytail with a rubber band.

STEP 5

Once the ponytail is secure, place a dime-sized amount of straightening crème on your palm; rub your hands together and work them over the surface of the top and sides of your head-not the ponytail.

STEP 6

With both hands, twist the ponytail inward to create a roll that covers the rubber band; the roll should be in an up-and-down direction (parallel to your nose). Once the French hair twist is in place, thread bobby pins throughout the twist to secure the length. Start the bobby pins at the top of the twist, angling them down and hiding their ends inside the twist. We recommend using 3 bobby pins between the top and middle of the twist and another 3 between the bottom and the middle. Leave the length and ends of the ponytail free, as shown in the picture.

STEP 7

Seal the hairstyle with an aerosol extra-hold hairspray, spraying it about 10 inches away from the hair. Focus the hairspray on the French hair twist and the top of the hair, and less on the length.
