EXPERT TIP

The key to this classic short hair updo is backcombing for added height and using plenty of hairspray for smoothness. Don't forget to add a beautiful headband or ribbon for true allure!

HOW TO ACHIEVE THE LOOK

STEP 1

Wash and condition hair

STEP 2

Towel-dry hair until damp and scrunch with a towel, so hair isn’t damaged and doesn’t get split ends.

STEP 3

Spray hair with a lightweight spray gel and work it through your hair with a skeleton brush, ensuring it’s evenly distributed.

STEP 4

Blow-dry hair completely, using the skeleton brush to push hair upward and backward as you blow-dry. Once hair is completely dry, section off the front-middle portion.

STEP 5

Divide the front-middle portion of your hair into three sections. For each section, place the tips over a medium-sized roller and roll your hair upward to the scalp. Blow-dry each roller for 20 seconds.

STEP 6

Take out the rollers, starting with the one that is farthest back. Backcomb each of these three sections, spraying the roots of each area with hairspray.

STEP 7

After each section has been backcombed, brush all three back and upward with a flat brush, smoothing the hair backward. Spray hair all over with an aerosol strong-hold hairspray, smoothing the surface of the hair into a bouffant shape (as in the picture). Be sure to smooth the sides and the middle of the hair, as this will keep this short hair updo looking polished.

STEP 8

Place a headband on your forehead and slide it back 2-3 inches from the hairline, keeping the front of the hair smooth
