The Classic Wave

EXPERT TIP

Add texture and volume to this stunning style by brushing out curls for beautiful, shiny waves.

HOW TO ACHIEVE THE LOOK

STEP 1

Wash and condition hair.

STEP 2

Towel-dry hair until damp and scrunch with a towel to help prevent damage and split ends.

STEP 3

Fill your left palm with quarter-sized mound of smoothing crème. With your right hand, use a wide-tooth comb to work the crème into your hair, starting at the roots all the way to the tips. If needed, fill your palm twice and work the styling crème through the hair with the comb, ensuring it is evenly distributed.

STEP 4

Using the pick end of a steel comb, create a part either in the middle of the hair or slightly to one side. Blow-dry hair 80% dry using a skeleton brush or your fingers.

STEP 5

Separate hair into 12-15 sections, each approximately 2 inches. We recommend 5-8 sections in the middle of your hair, and 3 each for the left and right sides of your hair. Starting with the top middle section of your head (at the crown), place tips of the hair over a large Velcro roller and roll the hair up to the scalp. Repeat in a descending fashion down the middle of your head. Rollers should be parallel with your eyes.

STEP 6

For the sides of your hair, split each into 3 sections – a top, middle, and bottom section. Start with the top section of the hair; hold the roller sideways (the open end pointing upward) and place the tips of the hair over the roller, and roll up to the scalp. Repeat with the bottom layer as well as the other side, with all side rollers facing sideways (away from your face).

STEP 7

Blow-dry hair until completely dry. Remove the rollers, starting with the bottom layer first. Brush through the middle of the hair with a flat brush, creating waves within the hair. For the sides, use a round brush to keep the shape, shaping them to flip outward so the tips are pointing backward. As you brush the sides, spray them with hairspray, using your free hand as a guide for the brush (so it doesn’t get stuck in your hair).

STEP 8

How to get hair waves to last? Spray the back and middle of your hair with a flexible-hold hairspray.
