EXPERT TIP

If you don't have duck-billed clips, you can create this style with large soft twist rollers.

HOW TO ACHIEVE THE LOOK

STEP 1

Wash and condition hair.

STEP 2

Towel-dry hair until damp and scrunch with a towel to help prevent damage and split ends.

STEP 3

Fill half of your left palm with a volumizing mousse. With your right hand, use a wide-tooth comb to work the mousse into your hair, starting at the roots all the way to the tips.

STEP 4

Separate hair into 20 sections, each approximately 1-2 inches. Starting with the front middle section, place a small duck-billed clip one inch back from your hairline. As you put a duck-billed clip in place, push hair up ever so slightly, creating a loose loop or bump for this section. Place another duck-billed clip approximately 1-2 inches down from the first clip, again creating a loop as you secure the clip. Continue this process, placing small duck-billed clips in a descending manner down this middle 1-inch section of your hair. Repeat this process in a descending manner throughout all sections of your hair. Once all clips are in place, hair should look like bumpy rows. While an involved process, these clips will help you create natural-looking beach waves.

STEP 5

Blow-dry hair completely with a diffuser. Remove all clips and use your fingers to loosen hair into waves, working your fingers from root to tip.

STEP 6

Place a headband on your forehead and work it back onto your head, stopping it 2-3 inches from your hairline. The front of your hair should look smooth and sleek.

STEP 7

To keep your beach waves defined, spray hair all over with a flexible-hold hairspray.
