Why is it hard for color (CA: colour) treated hair and curly hair to shine?

(Colour) treated hair goes through an oxidative process that works to alter hair’s pigment and alters hair’s transparent surface. Hair’s pigments reside within the fiber so hair colour technology must first pass through hair’s outer layers to get to its destination—hair pigment. This journey towards hair’s pigments degrades those outer layers, causing the hair surface to become uneven, rough and cloudy, which changes the way colour treated hair interacts with light. This ultimately gives colour treated hair a dull appearance. To restore vibrancy to colour treated hair, it is especially important to use haircare products that are designed to remove light-scattering dirt and deposits as well as smooth the rough cuticles of colour treated hair so that they lie flat and regularly reflect light. We recommend Pantene Coloured Hair Systems shampoos and conditioners.

As for curly hair, its wonderful twists and turns create rough spots on the cuticle layer and make regular fiber alignment a challenge. Without this alignment, the curly hair fiber scatters light, which leads to a dull appearance.
